Lights ON or Light OFF
Approximately 5% of your energy bill is based on your lighting. LED bulbs are widely popular for saving you electricity in your home.
Changing the bulbs in every room and also Halogen Bulbs for LEDs will give you more pounds in your pocket plus if you check out the packaging you’ll see there are different shades of colour, so not only do you save money you can create an ambience too. That’s a win in our book.
LEDs come in a range of shades from cool to warm, allowing you to create the lighting effect that you want for your home. If the average household replaced all bulbs with LEDs, it would cost about £160 and save around £55 a year on bills.
Another tip: turn your lights off when you’re not using them or when you leave a room. This will save you around £20 a year on your annual energy bills.

Washing, Cleaning
Your appliances that are geared at warming up water or air! Will consume 14% of your average energy bill.

Cold Appliances
The lifespan of your Fridge and Freezer could be up to 17 years. So when it comes to saving those pennies, it’s highly recommended you invest in a highly efficient appliance. Fridge Freezers don’t get turned off for obvious reasons. So you are using energy 24/7, the more your appliance draws energy the more you will spend. Fridges and Freezers also account for around 13% of an average household’s energy bill.
The two things to consider when replacing a Fridge Freezer are: Make sure the energy rating is the highest efficiency and also, don’t be tempted to buy a large one just because, buy the right size appliance for your needs at home.

Cooking
Cooking meals at home cost the average household around 4% of their energy bill. With a whole host of kitchen appliances, things such as ovens, electric whisks, microwaves, kettles, hobs, coffee machines, soup makers etc… it’s surprising how the kitchen isn’t a higher percentage of the average energy bill.
Homesmart energy recommend you avoid overfilling the kettle, this can save you up to £11 per year and we also suggest you use the microwave more. The microwave only heats the food, not the air surrounding it! Remember to unplug applicances and turn off all sockets when not in use too, this can have huge savings with your energy bill.
